Watertown, MA. May, 2013

Independence Day parades don’t mean as much to me as those on other patriotic holidays. I love our town’s Memorial Day parade. One reason is that it reminds me of the parades of my childhood. How we’d all run to the corner and wait, then thrill to the marching bands, wave at the marching firemen, etc. So in 2013, when this troupe from Miss Maria’s School of Dance came trotting by, I remembered that back in Springfield, NJ, in the late 1950s, it was Miss Bunny’s School of the Dance that marched in my childhood parades. Probably the same routines, just different music. Which one, by the way, do you think is Miss Maria? Could it be the young woman, hands raised, assuming the pose of one of the figures in Caravaggio's Deposition?

  1. #CoronaVirus update from Miss Maria's School of Dance (sans "the"): Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and Governmental Orders, our dance studio temporarily closed to the public on March 16, 2020. Although our studio was closed, we continued to offer dance classes via Zoom to successfully complete our 9th dance season, which concluded on June 27, 2020. We are planning to re-open our studio to the public beginning on Monday, July 6, with a reduced & more limited Summer Dance schedule. In an effort to ensure the safety and well-being of our customers and our staff, we have implemented several new safety standards pursuant to Governmental guidelines and restrictions. Our new safety standards are to be adhered to and followed by all our employees and customers as a part of normal business operations, until otherwise advised by our Governmental and Health officials.
